I
INTRODUCTION
This chapter deals with
research background, problem statement, objective of the research, research
significance and research scope.
A.
Background
The
development of science and technology is growing rapidly. It is indicated by
the exchanges of many aspects of social life. World society demanded us to be
able to communicate in many languages, especially English language. Therefore,
to prepare Indonesian people to be the member of the world society, English
language teaching begins from Elementary School until University.
For
many years, English is taught as a foreign language and becomes an obligatory
school subject at the Junior and Senior High School. While in University’s
curriculum English language is taught in the more specific purposes and many
different ways. As a foreign language, some students’ are successful and the
others are not of English learning although they are learning under the same
circumstance, the same teacher, even in the same place. Some students’ find
difficulties in learning English as foreign language (Hanifah, 2011). In the
other hand, English teachers sometimes find some difficulties in teaching
English, because it is different from Indonesian language.
